Additional information: Gibraltar was taken from Spain at the beginning of the 18th century, and since then Spain has claimed its return; a referendum held among the Gibraltarians in 1967 crossed out all the hopes of Spain: only less than 0.5% of the inhabitants of Gibraltar wished to reunite with her; as a thank you for their loyalty, Britain allowed Gibraltar in May 1969 to adopt its own constitution, which secured British control over its possession; probably this coin reflects this event
