In January 2008, the Austrian Mint began issuing a collector's silver coin with a face value of 1.50 euro, part of the Vienna Philharmonic series. The coin is minted from silver 999 samples and has a weight of one ounce.
The obverse of the silver coin depicts an organ that is installed in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Philharmonic. Over the organ in a semicircle is the name of the country "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH." At the bottom of the coin is the weight of "1 UNZE" as well as the inscription "FEINSILBER" ("PURE SILVER"). Even lower is the year of minting, and under it is the face value of the coin "1.50 EURO."
The reverse of the Austrian silver "philharmonicer" of 1.50 euro depicts musical instruments used by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra: four violins, cello, horn, bassoon and harp. The inscriptions "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" and "SILBER" are inscribed on top.
