   The obverse of the commemorative coin depicts a portrait of the outstanding Finnish writer Frans Emil Sillanpäy. Above the image is the name of the writer "F. E. SILLANPÄÄ" and on the sides are the years of life "1888 1964." Also on the commemorative coin is the year of issue, the sign of the mint of Finland and the country designation "FI." 12 stars of the European Union are placed on the outer ring.
