Common reverse of euro coins

Euro coins of regular minting of all eurozone countries have a single part of the reverse, the design of which was chosen in 1997 as a result of an opinion poll. The author of the design was the Belgian Luc Luix, whose signature is on all euro coins in the form of two crossed letters L.

Coins of a small denomination of 1, 2 and 5 euro cents depict the globe with a map of Europe. The coins have 6 diagonal lines with 12 EU stars at the ends, which symbolize the original number of eurozone countries. Senior coins depict a map of Europe with countries participating in the European Union. They also have lines with 12 stars, but in contrast to the small face value, the lines are located vertically.

On June 7, 2005, the Council of Europe decided that in connection with the expansion of the European Union by 10 states, changes should be made to the design of the common side of euro coins. Thus, from January 1, 2007, coins of a new type with a slightly modified reverse were issued in cash. Coins with a face value of 10 euro cents and above depict the entire European continent without borders, including non-eurozone EU countries.
